About the Tutorial

Most students come to WC for one-hour tutoring sessions that are structured to promote proficiency in writing at any stage of the writing process, including brainstorming, organization, development, revision, style, grammar, and punctuation. Therefore we require that students...

  • Actively participate in the tutorial. WC offers a supplemental learning experience in which the tutors teach new strategies to approach your writing situations, such as teaching you how to proofread your own papers. You cannot simply drop off your paper and pick it up later. Likewise, we will not just sign forms for extra credit.
  • Make an appointment. We do not serve walk-ins unless a space is available. Due to the high volume of students we serve, the opportunity for a walk-in appointment can be rare; therefore we strongly encourage you to schedule your appointments in advance-please call 757.683.4013.
  • Students who are over 10 minutes late will forfeit their appointments to any students who walk in for an appointment. After 20 minutes, your appointment will be cancelled due to limited time for a productive tutorial.

With these policies in mind, we recommend that you...

  • Please call us 3-4 business days before you would like to come in and see us. We are often busy, and if you call for a same- or next-day appointment, chances are we won't be able to schedule you.
  • Please do not wait until the last minute to come see us. Conducting a tutorial mere hours before your paper is due is useful to no one.
