End Punctuation

End punctuation does as it says: it comes at the end of sentences. Consisting of periods (.), question marks (?), and exclamation points (!), you will always have one of these marks at the end of each sentence.

Period: (.)

This is a period. It is the primary and most basic form of end punctuation. The words which precede a period must constitute an independent clause-they must make a sentence.

Question mark: (?)

What happens when you write a question? You put a question mark at the end of the sentence to signify that, yes, indeed you have written a question. Again, a question mark should generally follow an independent clause, though style may at times indicate other forms. Such as? Such as the "Such as" which you just read.

Exclamation point: (!)

Yeah! Exclamation points are used to signify statements of excitement or exuberance, surprise, intense anger, etc. Generally, you should limit your use of the exclamation point in formal writing!
