Faculty

Jennifer N. Fish, Chair (Ph.D., American University) is an Associate Professor of Women's Studies.  As a sociologist, her teaching and research interests focus on gender in a global context, with a particular emphasis on women's roles in rebuilding  societies during the aftermath of social and political conflict.  She has worked within South Africa's post-apartheid reconciliation process since 1995 and received two fellowships through the University of Cape Town and the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. Her recent book, Domestic Democracy: At Home in South Africa, examines the institution of paid domestic labor in the context of democracy-building. 757-683-4908

Anita Clair Fellman, Faculty Emerita of Women's Studies (Ph.D., Northwestern University) has been Associate Professor of History and Chair of the Women's Studies Department at Old Dominion University since 1988. Among the books she has authored or co-edited are Rethinking Canada: The Promise of Women's History (3 editions), Ourselves as Students: Multicultural Voices in the Classroom, and Making Sense of Self: Medical Advice Literature in Late Nineteenth-Century America. Her newest book, Little House Long Shadow: Laura Ingalls Wilder's Impact on American Culture will be published in Spring 2008. 757-683-3824.
