Social Science Research Center Research Fellow Program Announcement:
Purpose:
The Social Science Research Center (The SSRC) often interacts with faculty at Old Dominion University to develop and implement research projects. The purpose of the special Research Fellow designation is to enhance the professional relationship between selected ODU faculty and The SSRC by formally acknowledging the extraordinary contribution of these faculty to the mission and goals of The SSRC.
Mechanism:
The special designation, Social Science Research Center Fellow, would be granted to ODU faculty members who meet the identified criteria and accept the designation. All designees will receive a letter signed by The SSRC, The College of Arts and Letters, and their own college acknowledging their contribution to The SSRC. Designations will be reviewed for re-approval on an annual basis.
Criteria:
A designee must:
- be an ODU faculty member
- have collaborated on at least one, externally funded, significant SSRC research project
- demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the mission and goals of The SSRC, including a commitment to continue professional collaboration with The SSRC when feasible
- demonstrate a proficiency and commitment to the highest methodological standards in social science research
- receive approval from the Director of The Social Science Research Center, the Dean of The College of Arts & Letters, the Chair of their own department, and the Dean of their own college
Selection Process:
- The Director of the Social Science Research Center identifies each candidate based upon previous and current professional interaction with SSRC staff, and accomplishments by the candidate on SSRC projects.
- Each candidate is informed of the intention to include his/her name as a candidate for Research Fellow, and invited to accept the SSRC Research Fellow designation.
- Each candidate receives a full review according to the selection criteria outlined above.
- The Director of The SSRC submits each candidate to the Dean of A&L and the candidate’s Chair and Dean for final approval.
