MUSC 405 and 406 have been replaced by MUSC 401 and 402; The Undergraduate Music Education Professional Courses are now offered on a yearly basis.
Changes have been made to the ODU Music Education curriculum to be effective fall 2013. MUSC 405 (Elementary Instrumental Methods) and MUSC 406 (Elementary Instrumental Practicum) are no longer offered. These courses have been replaced by MUSC 401 (Elementary Vocal and General Methods) and MUSC 402 (Elementary Vocal and General Practicum) instead. This is in order to align with Virginia Department of Education licensing standards for the Bachelor of Music, Music Education degree, as all graduates are qualified to teach general music in Virginia (NOTE: the elementary instrumental material has been moved to MUSC 407). Students that have already completed MUSC 405 and MUSC 406 are not required to complete MUSC 401 and 402.Also, the entire Music Education Professional Education course sequence (MUSC 401, 402, 403, 404, 407 and 408 will be offered on a yearly basis to better serve our students. This welcome change will aid in the timely completion of the Music Education degree. For more information, please contact Dr. Owens.
