Baritone Charles Stanton is active as a performer, director, and educator in a variety of venues. Charles holds the degrees Master of Music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Bachelor of Music from Wingate University. Charles completed additional advanced studies in Voice in the studio of renowned vocal pedagogue, Richard Miller. Charles continued his studies in Europe in Mannheim, Germany with artists and coaches of the Mannheim City Opera. While there, he studied and performed six principal roles as well as several considerable main stage roles with the City Opera. Among others, Charles has been a guest artist with Opera Carolina, Long Leaf Opera, Greensboro Opera, Central Piedmont Opera, Piedmont Opera, Chattanooga Opera, Opera Memphis, Newberry Opera, Atlanta Opera, Mannheim City Opera, Annapolis Opera, Granite State Opera, Boston Opera Collaborative and the Dartmouth Handel Society. Engagements over the last year have afforded Charles eight world debuts of new works as well as several appearances in the standard repertoire. Recent reviews include, " Stanton's beautiful vocalizing especially impressive, and individual character studies well-crafted from within the general ensemble" and " Stanton's powerful voice as Count Almaviva carried the entirety of the second act."
At Old Dominion University Mr. Stanton teaches voice and directs the Opera Theatre.
