ODU & SCOLA!

SCOLA is a nonprofit educational organization that receives and re-transmits television programming from around the world in native languages. These programs are available via the Internet or Videostream Service to all ODU students and faculty:

SCOLA provides authentic programming from more than 95 countries and 80 languages, including:

 Channel 1           Authentic Programming (News, Weather and Cultural) highlighting regions of greater Eurasia. Croatia, Czech Republic,  France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova,Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania,  Russia, Serbia, Slovenia and Spain among others.
 Channel 2  Programming from Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries.
 Channel 3  (Chinese Teaching Channel) Featuring educational and cultural programming from the People's Republic of China.
 Channel 4  Featuring programming from the nations of: Afghanistan, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand and Vietnam.
 Channel 5  Features programming from continental Africa. More than 20 languages are offered from nations across Africa.
 Channel 6  Features programming from the Middle East (including Iran and Iraq), Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Kurdish Sorani and Kurmanji are also offered.

 

SCOLA Insta-Class lessons provide transcriptions, translations, quizzes and vocabulary with accompanying video and audio clip playback for learners in 26 languages. SCOLA enhances language training through the use of current events and is suitable for use by an individual or a class to extend vocabulary, grammar, reading and comprehension skills.
