Academic Podcasting
The Impact of Academic Podcasting: Emerging Technologies in the Foreign Language Classroom:
The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Old Dominion University began podcasting in the Fall semester of 2006 as part of a project supported by a University Faculty Innovator Grant. This initial grant allowed faculty to begin to adapt podcasting technology for instructional purposes. This pilot project laid the foundation for a larger, follow-up project, supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)- Digital Humanities Initiative (DHI). The NEH grant allowed more faculty members in the Foreign Language Department to develop podcasts and to use them for a variety of instructional purposes in different language courses, including:
- reinforce class content,
- improve pronunciation,
- build vocabulary, and
- improve oral and aural skills.

Academic podcasting technology is now integrated into the beginning to advanced language, literature and culture courses in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, and English (World Literature).
