"Mother Tongues and Other Cultures: Creative Writing, Translation and Multi-Cultural Transformation"
Old Dominion University
September 10-13, 2009
In our increasingly global and international world, more and more people migrate and settle in new cultures but continue to speak and write in their original language. In the process sub-cultures, emerge which can create new cross-cultural forms of expression in a variety of artistic media. This three-day symposium will provide a forum for readings of contemporary prose, poetry, plays etc. which are written in languages different from their cultural environment. These readings will be complemented by research papers.
