Dr. Martha M. Daas, Assistant Professor

Dr. Daas's research areas include the study of popular manifestations of religion in the Spanish Middle Ages and the study of religious parody. She has recently published articles on the Libro de buen Amor, the Libro de Alexandre, and on the medieval life of Saint Martha. Her recently completed monograph entitled The Politics of Salvation: Re-inventing the Mary Myth in Medieval Spain focuses on the propaganda surrounding the medieval life of the Virgin Mary.
Dr. Daas has taught a number of courses, including Sex and Religion in the Middle Ages, From Virgin to Vixen: Hispanic Women Writers in Spain and Latin America, and the Camino de Santiago. She also teaches surveys of Spanish Literature and Spanish Civilization.
Dr. Daas is the Spanish Program Director and also advises all Spanish minors.
Dr. Andrew M. Gordus,

His areas of research include border studies, Mexican literature, contemporary Brazilian literature, cultural studies and gender studies. He has published in journals such as Mexican Studies/Estudios Mexicanos, Entorno, Rocky Mountain Review y Memoria de las literaturas mexicanas. He has a forthcoming article in the Luso-Brazilian Review.
He has taught a number of courses, including surveys on Latin American literature, Border Literature and Culture, Advanced Grammar and Syntax, and the Humanities.
He is the advisor for students in the Spanish Teaching Licensure Program.
Dr. Angelica J. Huizar

Angélica Huízar's research interests include Latin American poetry and theatre, theories of performance. Her most recent research interests center on digital poetics and aesthetics as a cultural study of the effects of globalization.
An expert in avant-garde Latin American poetics, she has authored more than thirteen refereed publications and more than forty professional conference papers in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Her book entitled, Beyond the Page: Latin American Poetry from the Calligramme to the Virtual (Academica Press, 2008), focuses on the aesthetic and theoretical relationships between art, music, sound, visual typography and the word in avant-garde poetry including digital poetics of Mexico, Uruguay, Chile, Peru and Brazil. Her most recent research interests center on digital poetics and aesthetics as a cultural study of the effects of globalization.
At ODU she advised and directed the Latin American Studies Program until to her most recent promotion in the Graduate Program in International Studies as Associate Director. Since 2003 she has served as Assistant Professor at ODU and taught Latin American culture and civilization, surveys on Latin American literature, seminars on Latin American poetry and performance, Latin American theater, and Latino/a literature. In addition to her position at ODU, Dr. Huizar volunteers her time serving on the Advisory Board for the Virginia Latino Higher Education Network (VALHEN) and as Mentor in Symposiums sponsored by the Hispanic College Fund.
Ms. Nancy Taylor Minguez

Ms. Mínguez is a lecturer of Spanish and the Coordinator of the first and second year Spanish language programs. She has lived and worked in Spain and studied for her Master's Degree at the University of Salamanca. She also holds a Master's in Applied Linguistics from Old Dominion University. Her professional interests include linguistics and second language acquisition and teaching methodologies.. She has recently published her verb exercise workbook "Conquering the Spanish Verb System: The yo Connection" with Wiley. When she is not involved in her professional activities, she enjoys ballet classes, classical music, art, theater productions, her four cats, and her family.
