Chinese
The political and economical changes in the People's Republic of China during the past decade have been truly dramatic. With a population of over one billion, this ancient culture has undergone a complex process of modernization and is poised to become a central player on the international stage of commerce and politics. In order to meet these challenges and opportunities, the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Old Dominion University is building a Chinese language and culture program with the help of a major federal grant from the Department of Education. Beginning in the Fall 2000, courses were designed to substantially expand our program in Chinese studies.
