Interfaith Understanding at IJIU
IJIU provides an academic environment to promote Interfaith Understanding, an emerging, dynamic field based in interdisciplinary study. Central to IJIU's mission, Interfaith Understanding entails the promotion of peace without compromise of or change to belief systems.
Interfaith Understanding requires a depth and breadth of knowledge that crosses religious and academic disciplinary boundaries, and IJIU promotes the development of models and standards for the study and practice of interfaith research. The Institute supports the identification and dissemination of information based on an interfaith model of common human needs identified among the major world religions (i.e. faith, honor, love, joy, hope, meaning, and support). IJIU promotes collaborative interfaith research with global implications that has practical application for our diverse population at the University, in the local community, and beyond.
