The WPS Emphasis Area

The Work and Professional Emphasis is divided into two areas: "Understandings" and "Applications."

Understandings:
Courses in "Understandings" provide you with a framework for the study of the experience of work itself. You can take the opportunity to step back and look at work from several perspectives.

Applications:
Courses in "Applications" focus on ways in which theory is applied in day-to-day work situations. You are able to look at concrete methods for working with people and systems. When you complete the program, you will have increased your knowledge and skill level in the following ways:
  • Innovative problem-solving skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Work-related research methods
  • Effective communication across national and organizational boundaries
  • Management skills across a diverse work force and workplace environments
  • Leadership skills to be used with people and systems
