Program Description

BA / BS Individualized Integrative Studies Curriculum

1. Students must meet all University requirements for the Bachelors Degree including University General Education requirements at the Lower and Upper Level as described in their appropriate University Catalog. Bachelor of Arts (BA) students must demonstrate competency in a foreign language at the 202 level.

2. Individualized Integrative Studies Major Requirements (minimum 49-52 cr. Hours)

    Individualized Integrative Studies Core: (6 Hrs)

IDS 300W (3 hrs): Introduction to Interdisciplinary Studies      
IDS (3 hrs) Integration Project (which is comprised of one of the following): 

  • IDS 368: Interdisciplinary Studies Internship (Prerequisite: IDS 300W and senior  status required)
  • IDS 497: IDS Individualized Senior Project (Prerequisite: IDS 300W and senior  status required) 
  • IDS 493: Electronic Portfolio (Prerequisite: IDS 300W and senior  status required)

3. Concentration Area: (Students working with the IIS Coordinator and faculty sponsors design a curriculum to meet their needs from across 3 or more disciplines). This curriculum is submitted in the form of a proposal must be approved by the IIS Advisory Committee. Students must submit this proposal for approval before they complete 100 hours of their overall degree program.

The Concentration Area curriculum must contain: (42 cr. hr. minimum)
  a) minimum 42 credits (14 courses) (minimum 30 hrs 300-400 level)
  b) must have courses from at least 3 disciplines.
  c) no more than 28 (9 courses)(or 2/3 of concentration area from one discipline
  d) One Writing Intensive course must be included among the Concentration Area courses.

4. Electives (to complete a program with a minimum of 120 credit hours.)

5. Students must obtain an overall 2.0 GPA in all courses taken toward the concentration, their Upper Level General Education Minor or Cluster, and an overall 2.0 for all courses taken at Old Dominion University.
