Blocking
Blocking or chunking is like an informal outline or a set of rough blueprints that represent intentions for a draft. It is one way of organizing prewriting material into a general outline for a paper by simultaneously looking at materials, their purpose, and audience expectations.
- How many blocks of material will I need for this paper
- What is each block supposed to do?
- What material goes into each block?
- What order for these chunks would best help my audience get through my paper?
- How much space roughly do I want each chunk to take up? (How much material do I have for each section and what can I assume that my audience already knows about the subject?-What do I want to say?)
- How do I want to develop each chunk? (How do I want to say it?-diagrams, pictures, charts, or words?)
