Regina Karp

Regina Karp, Associate Professor in Political Science and International Studies, holds a PhD in Political Science from Lancaster University in the United Kingdom. Prior to joining GPIS in 1993, she worked for seven years as senior project leader at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. Before taking on this position, she was a research fellow at the German Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, held a post-doc fellowship at Stanford University's Center for Arms Control and International Security, and a research fellowship at the Institute for East-West Security Studies in New York. Her publications include books and articles on arms control and European security. More recently, her research and publications have focussed on German foreign policy, security integration in the Baltic Sea region, and the changing nature of warfare. Her latest book is Global Insurgency and the Future of Armed Conflict. Debating Fourth-Generation Warfare (Routledge, 2007) co-edited with Aaron Karp and Terry Terriff.

In 2006 she was appointed Director of International Studies Programs with directing responsibility of GPIS and supervisory responsibility of the Model United Nations Program and the Bachelor in International Studies. For the past several years, she has been co-editor of the peer-reviewed journal Contemporary Security Policy and co-editor of the Routledge book series Global Security Issues. For her work, she has received grants from The Ford Foundation, NATO, the Swedish Institute, the Swedish Foreign Ministry, the Swedish Institute of International Affairs, the Baltic Sea Foundation, and the Wennergren Foundation.
