Robert Holden

Robert Holden is a Professor of Latin American history at Old Dominion University. He holds a PhD from the University of Chicago (1986), an MA from Pennsylvania States University (1977) and a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri (1970). He served as Associate Director of the Graduate Program in International Studies from September 2005 to May 2006, and has been a visiting professor at the Universidad de Costa Rica and the Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain. Prior to his tenure at Old Dominion University, Dr. Holden held academic positions at the University of Chicago and DePaul University.

He is author of numerous publications including Armies Without Nations: Public Violence and State Formation in Central America, 1821-1960 (Oxford University Press, 2004), Mexico and the Survey of the Public Lands: The Management of Modernization, 1876-1911 (Northern Illinois University Press, 1994) and forthcoming articles in Educational Philosophy and Theory and Memoria y Civilización.
