Assistantships

Our assistantships fund more than 75 percent of our full-time students.  We offer students the opportunity to teach, act as research assistants, or work as tutors in the writing center.

If you are making application for the fall semester and wish to be considered for financial assistance as either a teaching or research assistant, please submit your completed application package to the Admissions Office by February 15.

Assistantships are generally assigned before the fall semester only. If you are making application for the fall but do not wish to be considered for an assistantship, the application deadline is March 1.

* All graduate assistants who wish to teach composition at some time during their study at ODU must take ENGL 664 (Teaching College Composition) in the semester before or during the student's teaching.
