• Three hours in British Literature after 1800, ENGL 559 New Literatures in English, or ENGL 735 Postcolonial Literature
• Three hours in American Literature
• Three hours of Research and Criticism, ENGL 600
• Three hours of Writing Pedagogy from ENGL 555 or 664
• Three hours of Teaching Colloquium, ENGL 687
• Three hours of Rhetoric from ENGL 760 or 765
• Three hours of Linguistics
• Six hours of electives
