CRGS Mission

The mission of the Center for Regional and Global Study (CRGS) is to coordinate the full extent of resources in the College of Arts and Letters and across the University to enhance the stature of the University, individual and collective contributions to global study and a university-wide sense of community. The center is the locus for all interdisciplinary, trans-border programs and initiatives within the College, actively promoting cooperation between colleges. The Center acts as the College's and the University's international persona, providing efficient channels for communication with businesses, the media, the military, and volunteer organizations. The center's structure provides unique opportunities to consolidate existing programs and initiatives and foster a dynamic environment for future endeavors. The Center offers an umbrella organization that enhances informed exchanges and coordination of general Education, Area Studies Minors, the Teaching Across Borders Initiative, and undergraduate and graduate International Studies Programs. In turn, these exchanges provide greater transparency for curricular planning, student and faculty recruitment, and outreach activities. The center's primary areas of responsibility include the following:

• Advise the Dean of Arts and Letters on internationally-oriented teaching, research, and related activities in the College;
• Oversee the development of all existing international studies, area studies, and other internationally-oriented programs and emphases in the College;
• Facilitate communication among the directors of international studies degree programs, area studies minors, and other international programs and projects in the College;
• Initiate and coordinate the development of new internationally-oriented academic programs and emphases in the College of Arts and Letters and with other colleges;
• Support initiatives that encourage further internationalizing of curricula in the College of Arts and Letters and the University;
• Facilitate and coordinate training programs and workshops intended to prepare faculty for teaching and research with international or global content;
• Facilitate and coordinate grant-seeking activities that expand the College's internationally-oriented curricula, research, and other activities;
• Disseminate information regarding opportunities and support for internationally-oriented teaching, research, and training;
• Identify and pursue partnerships and linkages with other institutions and centers that will promote and enhance international content and global perspectives in teaching and research in the College of Arts and Letters; and
• Enhance communication and collaboration between the College of Arts and Letters and the Office of International Programs.

CRGS Board of Directors
