Qiu Jin

Dr. Qiu Jin is the Director of the ODU China Center. She is also an Associate Professor of History and International Studies and the Director of the Institute of Asian Studies at Old Dominion University. She earned her PhD in History from the University of Hawaii in 1995. In 1995-1996 she held a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Chinese Studies at the University of California at Berkeley. She specializes in Chinese history and specifically in the Cultural Revolution. Dr. Jin is the author of The Culture of Power: The Lin Biao Incident in the Cultural Revolution (Stanford University Press, 1999), the editor of the two-two volumes of Difficult Years: A Memoir of General Wu Faxian (in Chinese), and the co-editor of A Modern and Contemporary History of China, Volume I-II, trans. (Beijing: People's Education Press, 2003-04). She also published book chapters and peer-reviewed articles in the journals such as Pacific Review, the Historiography: East and West, Journal of Chinese Political Science, and Modern China Studies. She is also an Associate Chief Editor of Modern China Studies.

Chandra De Silva

I teach undergraduate courses on Colonialism and Nationalism in South Asia and Contemporary South Asia. My graduate offerings are in the area of Ethnicity and Violence in South Asia. My research is in two main areas,firstly Portuguese Colonial History in Sri Lanka and the Indian Ocean Region in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and secondly, politics, ethnicity and education in contemporary Sri Lanka.

 Chandra De Silva  

Chandra De Silva 教授"当代南亚南亚殖民主义和民 族主义"和"当代南亚"等"本科课程。其研究领域为南亚地区种族和暴力。主要有两方面:一是十六、十七世纪葡萄牙在斯里兰卡和印度洋地区的殖民历史,二是当代斯里兰卡的政治、种族和教育问题。

Donald Davis

I've been a member of the I/O psychology program at Old Dominion University since its founding and have had contact with virtually every one of its nearly 100 Ph.D. graduates. In addition to my role in the I/O program, I also serve as a faculty member in the Institute of Asian Studies at Old Dominion University.

I earned a Ph.D. from Michigan State University with concentrations in ecological psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, and social psychology. I like to use psychological theory and research to study organizations and make them more effective. My teaching, research, and consulting focus on three areas that are often intertwined: (1) personal and organizational transformation, (2) technology as an enabler of organizational performance, (3) cross-cultural I/O psychology and cultural diversity, with emphasis on China.

 Donald Davis

自ODU   工业与组织心理学项目成立以来,Donald Davis 便一直作为其中一员,该项目培养了近100博 士毕业生。此外,他也担任亚洲研究系的部分教学任务。

 Gene Hou

Dr. Hou’s research areas are in multibody dynamics, fluid-structure interaction and design under uncertainty, emphasizing on multidisciplinary applications. His current research is focused on two topics: a) system design and integration of autonomous surface vehicle and b) fluid-structure interaction. He is the director of the Dynamics Environment Simulation (DES) Laboratory and the Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) Laboratory. He has supervised the capstone senior design project team on the Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV). He is the faculty advisor of ODU Robot Club. He is also in charge of the development of ME graduate certificate program in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. His academic accomplishments include 35 journal articles, 57 proceeding papers and has secured external funds of over 3 million dollars. Funding sources range from various governmental agencies such as NSF, NASA Langley, and extend to high-level industries including Ford, General Motors, Newport News Shipbuilding Co., NAVSEA CCD and CDI Marine Engineering. The relationships he has been able to establish with local industries have also helped him earn the Excellence in Industrial Partnering Award of the College of Engineering and Technology in 2002. He received the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award, 1987-92, the outstanding Mechanical faculty award, 1985 and 1995, the SAE Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award, 1988, the College Excellence Award in Industry Partnering, 2002 and named as the faculty member who most inspired the honor graduate, 1993 and 2000. He married with May Hou in 1980, raised 3 children. He is a member of Norfolk Chinese Baptist Church and serves as a commissioner on the Human Rights Commission, City of Virginia Beach, since 2010.

Steve Hsiung

Dr. Hsiung is an associate professor of electrical engineering technology at ODU. Prior to his current position, he had worked for Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. in Sunnyvale, California, Seagate Technology, Inc., San Jose, California, and Lam Research Corp., Fremont, California. He also taught at Utah State University and California University of Pennsylvania. He has over 16 years teaching experiences in microprocessor/microcontroller related courses in post-secondary schools. He has also worked for Maxim Integrated Products Inc. on a smart battery controller project for 3 years. He was the firmware designer and application engineer for the first two generation microcontroller designs in the smart battery controller project. This microcontroller is also based on Harvard Architecture that is the same as the Microchip's PIC microcontroller.

Phillip J. Langlais

Philip J. Langlais holds a Ph.D. degree in psychology from Northeastern University, an M.S. degree in neurophysiology from the University of Texas Medical Branch, and a B.A. degree in Biology from Salem State College. Before coming to ODU, he served 17 years on the faculty at San Diego State University and Univ. California San Diego, School of Medicine. Prior to joining ODU in 2003, Dr. Langlais served as the Assoc. Dean for Graduate Studies & Research in the College of Sciences at SDSU.

Dr. Langlais is author and coauthor of research articles on the role and mechanisms of vitamin B1 (thiamine) deficiency and alcohol abuse in cognitive and memory disturbances. In collaboration with colleagues at UCSD and SDSU, he has also conducted and published research on the role of neurotransmitter and neuropeptide alterations in Alzheimer, Parkinson and Lewy-Body diseases, and psychotic depression. He has lectured nationally and internationally and his research has been funded by grants from the National Institute of Health, National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, National Institute on Aging and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

 Phillip J. Langlais

Philip J. Langlais 获得美国东北大学心理学博士、德州大学医学分校神经生理学硕士学位、沙连州立学院生物学学士。

John Nunnery

Dr. John A. Nunnery is the Interim Executive Director of The Center for Educational Partnerships Old Dominion University and Associate Professor of Educational Foundations and Leadership. He previously served as Director of the Bureau of Educational Research at The University of Memphis, Associate Research Scientist at Johns Hopkins University, and Executive Director of Research, Standards, and Accountability for the Memphis City Schools, which during his tenure won the first "Best Practices in Accountability Systems" award from the American Productivity and Quality Center for innovations in strategic planning, school improvement planning, organizational efficiency, and performance evaluation. His research and leadership interests are focused on providing effective solutions for educators of students at risk of failure due to economic hardship or historical deprivation. He has published more than 150 research reports, journal articles, and book chapters in this area, and currently serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Education of Students Placed At Risk. His work has been cited as meeting the highest standards of rigor by the National Clearinghouse for Comprehensive School Reform, the Comprehensive School Reform Quality Center, and the Education Commission of the States. ...

 John Nunnery

Zhongtang Ren

Dr. Zhongtang Ren severs on the faculty of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures in the College of Arts and Letters. As a Research Scientist at the Center for Educational Partnerships, he conducted education program research and evaluation, and succeeded in applying and serving as a principal investigator, a co-PI and an evaluator for several projects such as "Big Read" sponsored by National Endowment for the Arts and "Teaching American History" sponsored by U.S. Department of Education. He also collaborates with public schools in Hampton Roads, colleges at ODU and other universities to apply for various grants including a Chinese language program and grants sponsored by the National Science Foundation. His research interest focuses on student and teacher epistemological beliefs in different cultures, different domains and different learning environments. His publications include "A Cross-cultural Study of Epistemological Beliefs and Moral Reasoning between American and Chinese College Students" and "Effects of Student-written Wiki-base Textbooks on Pre-service Teachers' Epistemological Beliefs". His translations include the novel "Saving Faith" by David Baldacci, the literary critics "Iterating Deconstruction" by J. H. Miller, "A Zone of Engagement" by Peter Anderson, and "Salvation" by Langston Hughes.

 Zhongtang Ren (任中棠博士)任教于欧道明大学学院外语系作为教育合作中心的研究员,他长期进行对美国教育部的教育项目研究与评估工作,并担任美国教育部及美国国家艺术基金会的项目主持人。他还与汉普顿地区的中小学合作申请中文项目,并与欧道明大学各学院合作申请美国国家科学基金会的项目。其研究领域为不同文化、不同学科与不同学习环境下的认知信念研究。主要论文有《认识信念与道德推理跨文化研究》和《学生撰写的维基教材对职前教师认识信念的影响》等。译著有长篇小说《拯救费思》(译林出版社)以及知识分子图书馆丛书《重申解构主义》(中国社会科学出版社)与《交锋地带》(中国社会科学出版社)篇章等。


Harry Zhang

Dr. Zhang is a health economist who has extensive research experience in chronic diseases and sexually transmitted diseases in US and China. His research has been published in top medical journals, such as Annals of Internal Medicine, Health Services Research, and American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. He is the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator of research projects funded by US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) with a total budget over 2 million dollars. Prior to joining the faculty in 2005, he worked as a Senior Health Outcomes Researcher at the University of Chicago. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Chicago and Johns Hopkins University in 2006 and 2008.

Zhao Yang

Dr. Zhao Yang is the Manager of Institutional Research and Senior Statistician in Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, Old Dominion University. His work involves data-driven policy analysis on higher education for decision making. He obtained a doctoral degree in Economics from McGill University, Canada. Prior to that, he worked at Dalian University of Technology as an assistant professor of applied Mathematics.




Zhao Yang (杨朝博士)是ODU 学校研究与评估办公室的主要负责人及高级统计研究员。他的主要工作是为学校决策提供数据驱动的高等教育政策分析。他从加拿大麦吉尔大学获得了经济学博士学位。在此之前,他曾在大连理工大学担任应用数学助理教授。

  David Selover

David D. Selover joined the Department of Economics in 1998. He currently teaches courses in Econometrics II, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Research Methodology, US Economic History, Industrial Organization, and Introductory Microeconomics. Professor Selover’s research focuses largely on international economic interdependence and business cycle transmission, especially in the Pacific Basin. He is currently working on projects involving the effects of El Niño upon the business cycle, mode-locking models of business cycle formation, earthquake models of financial crises, the diffusion of fashion, and the role of culture in the economy. Professor Selover received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at San Diego in 1991, his M.A. in Economics from San Diego State University in 1982, and his B.A. in Political Science from San Diego State University.
