
Students minoring or majoring in Asian Studies can spend a year, semester, or summer studying abroad in a variety of Asian countries, including China, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines.
Internship opportunities are available in Chine, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Old Dominion University encourages all students to consider studying abroad for a summer, semester, or full year as part of their academics experience. Study abroad can enhance any major y challenging students to adapt ot a new academic system and to infuse their studies with a global perspective. In addition, the culture and language learning opportunities which are offered by study abroad are unparalleled.
Approved courses which are taken abroad are fully transferrable to your academic program, and students can take courses to meet major, minor, or general education requirements. Arrangements can also be made for credit-bearing internships, or volunteer and work abroad programs. Students who qualify for financial aid can continue to use this aid while earning credit abroad.


Yonsei University (Seoul), Korea

Located just 20 minutes from downtown Seoul, Yonsei University was founded in 1885 and is the oldest in Korea. With 17 colleges, 83 departments, and 13 professional graduate schools, Yonsei is home to 35,000 students. Many faculty at Yonsei have received advanced degrees overseas and have returned to Korea to
teach.
Yonsei prides itself on the diversity of its student body, noting a mix of economic backgrounds and political and religious affiliations.
Exchange students in South Korea have the opportunity to observe both the traditions and architecture of the nation's rich 5,000 year history, as well as some of the effects of this century's rapid change. The ancient capitals of Paekshe, Shilla, and Kyongju offer open air museums with excavated tombs, Buddhist temples, and other monuments to Korea's Golden Age.

Considering a career in business? This summer, put away the textbook and learn about some of the world's most dynamic ecnomies first-hand with a program China and Korea East Asia Business and Culture led by Professor David Selover. This program will take students on a visit to Beijing for 7 days and explore the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, and Tiananmen Square. Yeungnam University will be the host in Korea (12 days). The program includes lectures on Korean and Chinese economies, business managerial practices, and culture, with industry tours (e.g. Pohang Steel & Hyundai Motors) and visits to cultureal and historical attractions.

Society, History, and Politics of China

Make this summer the most unforgettable experience of your college life as you explore the Forbidden City, gaze at the endless Great Wall of China or contemplate the serenity of one of the most scenic sites in China - West Lake. The course Society, History, and Politics of China, led by Professor Yang Li, is a special opportunity to acquire first-hand knowledge of the social historical, and political developments taking place in China through direct contact with Chinese people and observation of various aspects of the society. The course will be conducted in three of China's most important cities - Beijing (the country's capital and political center), Changhai (China's financial and industrial center), and Xi'an.
