Dormitorium: An exhibition of film Décors by the Quay Brothers
Oct 24th - Dec 13th, 2009 -
Opening reception 7 p.m. Oct. 24
The Changing Gallery
The exhibition presents the actual film sets (décors) from the puppet animation films of the Quay Brothers, most widely recognized for their short masterpiece Street of Crocodiles (1986). Dormitorium represents the first time the decors of the London-based Quays have been exhibited in North America.
The Quay Brothers have built a reputation, and true following, with their dense cinematic work, which is influenced by Eastern European film, literature and music, and often features disassembled dolls and no spoken dialogue. The exhibition combines eleven of the rarely seen collaborative designed miniature decors from some of the Quays' most prominent films, with a continuous screening of the contextual films for which they were constructed.
Dormitorium: An Exhibition of Film Decors by the Quay Brothers was organized by The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, where it originated in the United States.
